It’s
getting closer, and we are excited about this year’s Global
Gala and our theme, Carnaval!
- A Celebration of South
America. The
49th Annual
Gala
is on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Through
the course of the evening, our guests eat, drink and dance
their way through the wonderful countries of Argentina, Brazil,
Chile and Colombia. With fabulous South American entertainment
from Minas for all to enjoy during the night, and of course,
everyone can bid on great silent auction items.

Carnaval!:
A Celebration of South America - Global Gala 2008
Directing
since the 1950s, Nelson Pereira dos Santos is widely considered
the father of Brazil’s Cinema Novo movement, the socially
progressive and aesthetically daring Brazilian New Wave which
sought to create a national Brazilian cinema free of foreign
influence. His films reflect the poverty and class issues
of the 1960s and 70s while retaining the humor and freshness
fused together into a national popular cinema. Pereira dos
Santos’ impact on Latin American cinema cannot be overstated.
