A
Page of Madness with Live Score
dir.Teinosuke
Kinugasa, Japan, 1926, video, 60 mins, b/w, silent with live
score
A
man takes a job at an asylum with hope of freeing his imprisoned
wife. A Page of Madness reveals both the frightening
and attractrive aspects of insanity. This
music and film event features live music composed by Gene Coleman
played by Ensemble N_JP (Japan/USA), conducted by Thaddeus Squire.
The
Sound Field 2006 festival will conclude in Philadelphia with
this special Halloween treat! A Page of Madness is
a truly amazing film and an incredible document attesting to
the creativity of it’s director, Teinosuke Kinugasa.
Amplifying and contrasting the images and moods of the film,
Gene Coleman has created a surreal and fantastic score that
immerses the audience in this unique cinematic experience. The
constantly morphing, ethereal sounds of Japanese traditional
instruments, along with a western instrument ensemble and electronic
sounds make this a perfect compliment to Kinugasa’s film.
