4th Annual Bastille Day Celebration + White Dog Cafe Block Party

Banana Peel (Peau De Banane)

dir. Marcel Ophuls, France, 1965, 16mm, 97 mins, b/w, French w/ English subtitles

A gang of con artists led by Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jeanne Moreau slowly weave a web to trap a greedy millionaire. Director Marcel Ophuls (son of the great Max Ophuls) presents a breezy, often witty film that confuses the characters as much as the viewer, an intentional ploy designed to show avarice taking over the gang, with everyone stealing from everyone else. It becomes impossible to tell the crooks from the straights, but it's still fun.

Vive la France! Continue the celebration at 10pm for the White Dog Cafe's 24th Annual Bastille Day Block Party. The White Dog Cafe is located at 3420 Sansom Street, Philadelphia. (Must be 21 to attend the Block Party. ID will be checked at the White Dog).
