Blow Out

dir. Brian DePalma, USA, 1981, 35mm, 108 mins, color

John Travolta plays a Philadelphia film sound effects man who accidentally records a politician's deadly car crash on Wissahickon Drive. While listening to the tape, he suspects he's uncovered a sinister assassination, leading through a violent path of intrigue and murder that culminates in a wild chase across Center City. With a skillful blending of real-life events of Watergate and Chappaquiddick, Philly native Brian DePalma tautly directed this political thriller. "Probably the best of all American conspiracy movies." - Pauline Kael
