The
Cave of Reconciliation
Artwork by
Pecki Witonsky
Describes
the story of Abraham in one direction and the story of Ibrahim
in the other, with each tale as important as the other. Married
by content, these sacred renderings show the story from each
religion's point of view. Dioramas, made of paper and fabric
illustrate the text. These beautifully designed pieces, hung
in dramatic shadow boxes, were created by Katie Scott, a student
at the Hussain School of Art.
Chinatown
Live(s)
Produced
through the Asian Arts Initiative’s Chinatown Oral History Project

Chinatown
Live(s) spans multiple generations and many nations of origin.
The stories shared challenge the perceptions of Chinatown as
a monolithic ethnic enclave or a superficial tourist destination,
and allude to the complexity of relationships and perspectives
that comprise this growing, living neighborhood.

…and
along came freedom - Americans in Pilsen 1945
A Photo Exhibit
Commemorating of the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation
of Western
Bohemia by U.S. Armed Forces
Sixty years ago, in April and May of 1945 US Armed Forces liberated
the Western Region of today’s Czech Republic, the former
Czechoslovakia. The liberation followed over five terrible years
of occupation by Hitler's Nazi Germany. These photos captured
the scenes in the city of Pilsen, home to the Pilsner Urquell
brewery and the Skoda industrial conglomerate and the largest
city in the region.
The exhibit depicts
scenes from 1945, when US and Belgian armed forces, under the
command of US Army General George Patton, liberated Western
Bohemia, including the cities of Plzen, Cheb, Domalice
and Rokycany. The negatives of many, if not all, of the photographs
on display, were hidden between 1948 and 1989 from the Communist
Secret Police. The Communist government of Czechoslovakia wanted
to give the impression that all of Czechoslovakia was liberated
by the Soviet Army. All monuments erected in honor of the Americans,
except one, were demolished.
Special thanks to
Peter A. Rafaeli, Honorary Consulate General of the Czech Republic
- Philadelphia and Vice President of the American Friends of
the Czech Republic.
