This antiwar masterpiece stars Jean Gabin and Pierre Fresnay as French soldiers held in a World War I German prison camp, with Erich von Stroheim as their captor, the unforgettable Captain von Rauffenstein. One of the very first prison escape movies, Grand Illusion is hailed as one of the greatest films ever made.

 

Vive la France! Continue the celebration on Thursday, July 14 at 10pm for the White Dog Cafe's 23nd Annual Bastille Day Block Party. The White Dog is located at 3420 Sansom Street, Philadelphia. (Must be 21 to attend the Block Party).
