Aharon Cohen's
Debt
dir. Amalia Margolin, Israel, 1999, video, 95 mins, color,
Hebrew w/ English subtitles
Actor
Moshe Ivgy in person!
One
afternoon, at a local coffee shop, Aharon Cohen is arrested
for a small debt he owed. Aharon is a happy man, loved by his
friends, and despite his divorce has a wonderful relationship
with his daughter. In jail and in ill health his daughter desperately
attempts to bail him out. Indifferent guards, an over-crowded
cell and an infected ulcer thrust Aharon into a Kafkaesque nightmare.
The following morning a hurried investigation struggles to make
sense out of his encounter with fate. Past, present and future
blend with illusion in the intricate story of this award-winning
drama to a chilling conclusion.
