From the depths of the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the 1970s, a piercing new sound emerged, combining the raw, jagged sounds of Punk and the tribal rhythms of African and American dance music the “No-Wave” sound was born. 30 years later the legacy of this groundbreaking period in music lives on with younger artists embracing the sound and aesthetic. The music and the people behind it offer candid glimpses into this vital energetic scene throughout Scott Crary’s documentary Kill Your Idols. Music fans will not want to miss this fascinating journey through 30 years of rock ‘n roll rebellion.

This new film traces the line from New York City’s underground, “no-wave” rock scene to the current groups who are incorporating the sounds of those original downtown rockers. The film features rarely seen footage of Sonic Youth, The Swans, DNA, Theoretical Girls, and Suicide along with interviews with Lydia Lunch, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Thurston Moore and many others.

Listen to 88.5 WXPN on Friday, August 25 from 7pm to 11pm to hear some of the groups featured in the film on Land of the Lost hosted by Robert Drake.
