Mirroring
the diversity of the international community they support and
represent, the current team of Resident Advisors hails from
14 countries: Canada, India, USA, China, Russia, Japan, Pakistan,
Brazil,
Korea, Australia, Turkey, Vietnam, Kenya and Kyrgyzstan.
Meet
Si Youn, Terry, Ertan and Roselyne:
Si
Youn Kim, a master’s student
at the University of the Arts, is from Korea. Si Youn has been
a Resident Advisor for two years where she has incorporated
many of her talents and creativity in her programming for residents.
At the beginning of this year, Si Youn and her co-RA, Terry
Ivanauskas, led an educational program, “All about Philadelphia”,
where residents learned more about their host city from the
perspective of an international student.
Terry
Ivanauskas, originally
from Brazil, is a visiting scholar at the Wharton School where
he is studying health economics. Terry, an assistant professor
in his native country, uses the same talents of educating and
helping his current suitemates in regards to issues of cultural
adjustment, homesickness, and community living. Being an economist,
Terry not only enjoys the benefit of saving on his rent, but
also the social interaction he has with students from around
the world.
Ertan
Ergezen, a doctoral candidate
in Drexel University’s biomedical engineering program, is originally
from Turkey. Ertan, being one of the senior members on the
RA
team, has taken on the additional responsibility and leadership
position of Cafe manager. As Cafe manager, Ertan has been successful
in creating social opportunities for residents, such as Ice
Cream Socials, Cafe Movie Nights,
and
International Themed Evenings.
Roselyne
Gichana,
a dentistry student at the University of Pennsylvania, is originally
from Kenya. Roselyne, being multilingual, is fluent in French,
Swahili, Kisii, and English. Roselyne, also studying in the
medical field, was successful with the support of her co-RA,
Zhenya Zhou, in hosting an IHouse Health Fair for residents.
The Health Fair represented a wide range of topics in personal
health that included dental hygiene, physical fitness, and nutrition.
We
are proud to have such an outstanding group of Resident Advisors
working
with
us to create the culturally aware and open-minded community
of global
citizens
that makes International House so special.
