Resident Advisors are at the heart of the International House living experience. Working with and through other residents and the community at large, they embody and advance the House’s mission to promote mutual tolerance and respect by bringing together people from different countries and cultures as a community to learn about and from each other.

Our 16 Resident
Advisors take the lead in developing and conducting programs
that create a warm and supportive "home away from home" for
our residents. Resident Advisors serve as House and Programming
RAs. Their roles include coordinating, publicizing and creating
innovative programs.
Tomorrow’s
world leaders, Resident Advisors are among the most committed
and talented residents at International House, and are selected
with leadership characteristics in mind. In addition to being
mature, outgoing, warm, compassionate, perceptive, inclusive,
and proactive. RAs are expected to have excellent judgment,
problem solving and listening skills.
Building on their already strong base of personal assets, the
experience of serving as Resident Advisor hones their skills
and leadership abilities. The intensive Orientation Training
they receive provides them with training and knowledge about
cultural and gender diversity, international student issues,
and conflict resolution, among other topics. Regular team meetings
to discuss and plan programs and operations help build teamwork
and further develop their administrative and problem solving
skills. Through all of these experiences, all RAs gain valuable
cross-cultural and team leadership skills that will benefit
them in their future lives and careers.
