Building a Global Community

For over 90 years, International House has worked to create a better world by bringing together people from different cultures and points of view to learn about and from each other through our highly regarded residential, cultural and arts programs. At a time when society needs cross-cultural understanding and an appreciation for diversity more than ever, International House is uniquely positioned to play an even more important role, locally and globally, in the new millennium.

To enable us to take advantage of this opportunity, we are undertaking a five-year initiative called Building a Global Community -- our first major fundraising effort since the 1980’s -- to address an estimated $15 million in institutional needs. These needs are to effect important capital improvements ($6.5 million) and to build the House’s endowment fund by an additional $8.5 million, to a total of $10 million, in order to support our building and core programs for generations to come.

Building a Global Community aims:

  • To enhance the quality of the International House experience
  • To protect our most important asset -- our building -- by making major capital improvements, including technology upgrades, which are necessary to remain competitive
  • To make International House the residence of preference for newly arrived international students and for all other students, American and international, seeking a cross-cultural, global living/learning experience
  • To raise our profile and visibility in order to significantly increase the number of people who support International House and its mission
  • To develop long-term financial stability through increased earned and contributed revenues, development of new revenue streams, and expansion of the endowment
  • To increase awareness of and participation in our acclaimed international/multicultural arts programs.
