Noir
Under the Stars
Drawing
influence from German Expressionist filmmaking, Pulp magazines
and detective novels of the early 20th century, as well as the
unfolding horrors of World War II, Film Noir was a major stylistic
movement in Hollywood for decades. Beginning in the 1940s directors
such as Fritz Lang, Howard Hawks and Sam Fuller broke new ground
each with their own dramatic vision of a world in light and
shadows and where heroes and villains are not always easy to
distinguish. International House invites you to join us in the
courtyard for a series of free screenings highlighting the golden
era of the Film Noir.

Samuel Fuller, USA, 1953, video, 80 mins, b/w

crook Skip McCoy (Richard Widmark) has his eyes fixed on the
big score, but when he picks the purse of unsuspecting Candy
(Jean Peters) he finds a haul bigger than he could imagine:
a strip of microfilm bearing confidential US secrets. Tailed
by both Feds and the unwitting courier's Communist puppeteers,
Skip and Candy find themselves in a precarious gambit that pits
