Daniel Auteuil plays
the Chevalier de Lagardère, an expert swordsman living
in early 18th-century France, in this new swashbuckler in the
classic mode, full of sex, swordfights, and political intrigue.
The chevalier finds himself caught between a frivolous duke
and the duke's scheming cousin who stands to inherit the duke's
fortune if he can prevent him from producing an heir. This rousing,
impeccably mounted costumer - shot handsomely in color and scope
- brings back some of the true moviegoing pleasures of yesteryear.
From the director of King of Hearts and That Man
in Rio.
