The Decline of Western Civilization

dir. Penelope Spheeris, USA, 35mm, 1981, 100 mins, color

Penelope Spheeris’ (Wayne’s World) unflinching documentary of the infamous L.A. Punk scene circa 1980 features performances from X, Germs, Fear, and the pre-Henry Rollins incarnation of Black Flag. Raw, candid interviews with punk legends such as Darby Crash, John Doe, and Pat Smear - who, a decade later became a member of Nirvana - reveal a generation of angry, young misfits brimming with self-destructive energy.

Repo Man

dir. Alex Cox, USA, 35mm, 1984, 92 mins, color

A twisted blend of sci-fi lunacy and punk rock attitude, Repo Man follows the exploits of Otto (Emilio Estevez), a nihilistic, suburban punk who reluctantly becomes re-possessor of automobiles. On the job, Otto is exposed to a surreal world of late night car chases, mysterious aliens, and the social misfits who inhabit the underside of Los Angeles.
