Third World Newsreel’s Call for Change Project

Philadelphia Premiere

Series Producer JT Tagaki in person

For over 35 years, Third World Newsreel has worked with socially conscious media makers and communities of color to bring a range of voices into the national discussion of American priorities. Their latest project, Call for Change, captures the fight for families facing deportation, activists working to pass a bill requiring companies doing business in New York to reveal a past relationship with the slave trade, spoken word from women rappers and intimate portraits of immigrants post 9/11.

This experimental short takes the images and emotions evoked by the colors of the Jamaican and American flags to question dual identities, stereotypes and civil liberty abuses faced by immigrants in the US.
