for Youth
What
is the history of Philadelphia youth involvement in the military?
With the Iraq War in its fourth year these young filmmakers
explore the themes of military recruitment, why youth enlist,
and how war influences society and youth culture from camouflage
clothing to video games. The rich and varied history of involving
youth in the military, from Civil War armament production to
resistance to the Vietnam War, is revealed through historical
research and interviews with veterans.
The
documentary was researched, written, shot and edited by these
student videomakers: Tashuana Bagby, 11th grade - Central High
School; Ron Blye-Coleman, 10th grade - Maritime Academy Charter;
Alexis Cummings, 12th grade - University City High School; Rebecca
Ebner, 11th grade - Masterman High School; James Shelton, 11th
grade - Friends Central; Daimen Squire, 10th grade - Maritime
Academy Charter; Tenneh Vincent, 10th grade - Upper Merion High
School.
The
independent filmmakers who guided and facilitated the project
are Amadee Braxton and Christian Rozier.
