1995, 35mm, 93 mins, color, Bambara w/ English subtitles
Winner
of the Grand Prize at FESPACO, Africa’s preeminent film festival,
Guimba is a dark political satire in the guise of
a colorful fairytale. Set in the distant past of pre-colonial
Africa, Guimba tells the story of a despot who uses
his dark magical powers to rule his kingdom. His one weakness
is his son, Janguine, a randy, perverse dwarf who spends his
days satisfying every appetite.
