Dai
Sil Kim-Gibson, the award winning director of Sa-I-Gu,
a documentary about the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest returns
to LA to explore its aftermath through the stories of the victims
and witnesses from multi-ethnic communities. The film presents
lives forever transformed by it, and lays bare the deeply rooted
flaws of American society, an ultimate cause of that unrest.
She finds that the racism and poverty persist in the inner city,
and that clashes among immigrants and African Americans in evolving
racial and economic conflicts continue, often pitted against
each other by the insulated mainstream.
Join
us after the film to discuss the issues of “Race, Gender, and
Urban Struggle”, with Keynote Speaker, Stephen Glassman, Chairperson
of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, Nydia Han, Reporter
for ABC Channel 6 News and filmmaker Dai Sil Kim-Gibson. This
dialogue will be an opportunity to explore the underlying tensions
of race and gender that persist in the Philadelphia area.
Free
admission. Tickets available one hour before showtime at the
International House Box Office.
